Cars, Happy Feet and Monster House Vie for Best Animated Oscar

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the nominations for 79th Oscar Race today.

Nominees for Best Animated Feature of the Year:

VFX companies vying for Oscar nominations are Industrial Light & Magic leading the way with its diverse CG work on DEAD MAN’S CHEST (Davy Jones) and POSEIDON (innovative water), as well as Sony Pictures Imageworks, Rising Sun Pictures, Rhythm & Hues, Frantic Films, The Orphanage and Framestore CFC, among others, for SUPERMAN RETURNS.

Randy Newman's song from CARS, "Our Town," was also nominated for Best Song.

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2006 will be presented on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center, and televised live by the ABC Television Network at 5:00 pm PST, beginning with a half-hour arrivals segment.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will present Scientific and Technical Academy Awards at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills on Feb. 10. The Gordon E. Sawyer Award, the first Oscar statuette to be awarded this year, will go to Ray Feeney for his “technological contributions, which have brought credit to the motion picture industry.”

The Academy will screen the animated shorts nominees with a filmmakers Q & A on Feb. 20.the week before the Oscars. Tickets go on sale Feb. 1, at $5 for the general public and $3 for Academy members. For more program information, please call (310) 247-3600.
