British Animation Awards - Winners!

The British Animation Awards (BAA) were presented Friday, March 15, 2002 at a gala ceremony at the National Film Theater in London. Created in 1996, BAA is a bi-annual event, and since its inception has covered all aspects of the UK animation scene, from student work to commercials, children's entertainment, short and experimental art films, and new technologies, scenario and craft. The big winner of the evening was director Michael Dudok de Wit, who picked up three awards including Best Short Film for his Academy-Award winning film FATHER AND DAUGHTER. In the new category for Best European Animated Film, the Aardman/DreamWorks favorite CHICKEN RUN tied with Michel Ocelot's KIRIKOU ET LA SORCIÈRE. Fan fave Gorillaz picked up an award for Best Music Video, Barry Purves' HAMILTON MATTRESS won Best Television Special and The Children's Choice award went to Dave Unwin's WAR GAME. The awards presented at the BAA are known as the "baa's." These unique artworks are created and signed by a fellow artist-animator. The BAA artist guidelines for creating an award ask that the "baa" have one or more sheep in it, with the option for a visual reference to the UK and/or animation.

Below is the full list of BAA winners, along with the artist that created the specific award. Congratulations to all the winners!
