BAFTA Hands Out Its Interactive Nods

The British Academy of Film & Television Arts has announced its nominations for the third annual interactive entertainment awards. Three nods, for the technical innovation, learning and children’s awards, went out to the Lego & Steven Spielberg Moviemaker Set, which gives kids a virtual production studio in a box. In the learning category, the Moviemaker Set is up against the SCOTTISH WRITERS and STAR WARS MATH’S JABBA’S GAME GALAXY CD-Roms. In the children’s category, the Moviemaker Set will be competing against Cartoon Network U.K. Online and the CREATURES’ PLAYGROUND CD-Rom. Cartoon Network U.K. Online is also up for the entertainment Website award against Netherlands-based toon site ExtraTainment.com. Toon noms piled up in the gaming section. For best mobile or networked game, CHUCHU ROCKET for DreamCast, MERCHANT PRINCES for WAP and POKEMON YELLOW for Gameboy all received nominations. For the PC game award, DEUS EX, GROUND CONTROL and SHOGUN TOTAL WAR are in competition. In the tough console category, BAFTA has given nods to MEDIEVIL II for PlayStation, READY 2 RUMBLE BOXING: ROUND 2 for PlayStation 2 and TIMESPLITTERS for PlayStation 2. In the moving image category, the N64 games BANJO-TOOTIE and PERFECT DARK both received nominations. Whereas, CANNON FODDER for Gameboy Colour, THEME PARK WORLD for PC and THIEF 2: THE METAL AGE all took home sound acknowledgments. Moreover in the music category, THE F.A. PREMIER LEAGUE FOOTBALL MANAGER ’99, IMPERIUM GALACTICA II and THEME PARK WORLD PC games all garnered nominations. In addition, up for the factual award is the WALKING WITH DINOSAURS CD-Rom. The winners of the awards will be announced in a ceremony on Thursday, October 26, 2000 in London.
