Aussie Compositor Joins Radium

Australian native Andrew McKenna joins digital visual effects studio Radium as senior compositor. He has worked on numerous high-profile national and international commercials, as well as television and film projects. McKenna was most recently at GMD in Sydney, Australia as VFX designer/compositor where he worked on such notable films as THE QUIET AMERICAN, THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING and INSPECTOR GADGET 2.

For THE QUIET AMERICAN, McKenna worked on a massive visual effects sequence to take the viewer out of the story and into the credits, which involved a continuous sequence of 2,500 frames at 2K. Combining a number of 4K plates with live-action the viewer travels through a number of articles written by the main character, played by Michael Caine, to document his stay in Vietnam. The viewer is taken into the credit bed and through the halftone dot of one of the articles most powerful images a complex move created with a 2D approach while McKenna was working with a 4K image.

Prior to GMD, McKenna held the position of vfx artist/senior editor at Beeps, a boutique postproduction facility in Brisbane, working on the BBBC/Discovery series SPACE and THE CROCODILE HUNTER, as well as numerous commercial endeavors. Previously McKenna worked in Toronto at Fishbowl, Batten A Visual Communications Co. and Colour Reproductions.
