ASIFA-Hollywood's Animator Educators' Forum (AEF) is hosting its second Student Animation Festival. This year's celebration will be held at California State University Long Beach, 1250 Bellflower Boulevard, on November 6, 2010 from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

This year's festival will make history with the winning filmmaker receiving ASIFA-Hollywood's first annual Student Annie Award!

This free event provides an opportunity for students who are enrolled in academic programs to be recognized for their work by the Hollywood animation community. Student filmmakers' short films will be judged in the company of their peers, without the pressure of competing against experienced animation veterans. The AEF has designed the festival with the objective of establishing a worldwide student animation event that will enhance each entrant's filmmaking experience and help them transition into the professional entertainment industry. The festival will showcase the best of student filmmaking across multiple animation disciplines, including but not limited to: traditional, computer generated, stop-motion, and motion-graphic animation.

The winners of the five awards will be announced at the event and include: the Student Annie Award for Best Animated Short, the Silver Award for second place, the Bronze Award for third place, and two Honorable Mention awards. Award winning short animations as well other stand-out entries will be screened at the event. A panel discussion with industry experts will also be part of the program.

In addition to the competition portion of the event, a demo reel and portfolio review will be offered to the public. Students and recently graduated animation artists are encouraged to bring their reels in DVD format and/or an organized collection of flat artwork to be critiqued by industry professionals from some of Hollywood's most prestigious studios.

The Animation Educators Forum is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of animation through education. In 2008, a group of Southern California educators founded the Animation Educators Forum in order to begin dialogue and share information with all those who teach animation. Our members, with diverse backgrounds in both the animation and instructional fields, are focused on extending their knowledge and experience to others within the burgeoning animation community.

With the generous support of ASIFA-Hollywood, the AEF has launched the Student Annie Awards, a collection and screening of animation educators' personal films titled "Those Who Teach--Do!", as well as an online magazine and faculty and student resources.

ASIFA ("Association Internationale du Film D'Animation") was founded by animators in 1957 and chartered by UNESCO in 1960. ASIFA encourages the art of animation and furthers international understanding and goodwill through the medium. Today there are about thirty chapters of ASIFA, worldwide.

ASIFA-Hollywood, the association's largest chapter, was established nearly forty years ago as a 501(c)(3) California non-profit organization, and is self-sustaining through membership dues and the proceeds from various projects and events.
