Asian Television Awards Announces Nominees

The 9th annual Asian Television Awards has announced its nominees. The 34 awards will be dolled out on Dec. 2, 2004, in Singapore. The Best Animation nods went to GOKUSEN from Nippon Television Network (Japan); JOURNEY TO THE WEST from Eastern Broadcasting and YOYO TV (Taiwan); LEGENDS OF THE RING OF FIREWHY THE SUN CHASES THE MOON from Walt Disney Television (Singapore); and THENALI RAMAN from MediaCorp TV 12 and Vasantham Central (Singapore).

More than 1,500 entries came in from Asia, including Japan, China, Bangladesh, Malaysia, the Philippines, Pakistn, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan and Vietnam. Sixty-eight judges on 12 juries picked the best four.

Jonathan Hallett, chairman of judges, saids, "After the difficulties of the past few years, its great to see the industry recovering. Local production is at an all-time high and the experience gained under difficult circumstances has clearly stood the industry in good stead."
