Annecy Festival Unveils 2014 Poster

The Annecy International Animation Film Festival selects Franck Dion to create the poster for 2014.

The Annecy International Animation Film Festival has chosen filmmaker, illustrator and producer Franck Dion to create the poster for 2014.

“I wanted to pay tribute to stop motion in creating this poster as the technique is in the spotlight at this year's Festival,” Dion says. “It also has a very personal significance, as my first short, made in stop motion, was rewarded with the Junior Jury Award at Annecy exactly ten years ago in 2004.

“It's the layout of Annecy, situated between lake and mountains, that inspired the idea of the Capricorn, this fabulous half goat, half fish animal that originates in ancient Mesopotamia where it was considered, by those that imagined it, as a sort of guardian spirit,” Dion continues. “One way of putting Annecy 2014 under the best possible auspices!”

“Since the beginning of his career, Franck Dion has created a real bond with the Annecy Festival,” says Festival Artistic Director Marcel Jean. “His most recent film, Edmond Was a Donkey, was a winner here in 2012. I feel that the strength and unique quality of his graphic world, combined with his deep knowledge of our event, puts him in the perfect position to transpose the cheerful atmosphere of the Festival into his own style and the enchanting setting of Annecy.       “

Filmmaker, illustrator and producer Franck Dion works in several different fields. He collaborates with publishers and magazines and creates sets for theatres as well as animation sequences for documentaries. He made his first short film, The Phantom Inventory, in 2003, which went on to receive the CANAL J Junior Jury Award at Annecy 2004 along with a nomination for the Cartoon d’Or. He followed on in 2008 with Monsieur Cok, which, among other accolades, was selected at the Sundance festival.

His third short, Edmond Was a Donkey produced by Papy3D, the NFB and Arte, has won many prizes including the Special Jury Award at Annecy 2012 and the best international film award at the Short Shorts Film Festival in Tokyo, as well as nominations for the Cartoon d’Or and the César 2013 in the best animated film category. Franck is currently working on future projects for film and publication.
