Press Release from AniMazing International Film Festival

AniMazing Spotlight International Animation Festival is pleased to invite you to join us for our inaugural celebration, a "Weekend of Animated Shorts".  AniMazing Spotlight is a unique "festival & feedback" project dedicated to supporting and promoting international animated shorts. Our festival begins Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 1:00PM and ends after the awards ceremony the following evening. You are invited to join us for your choice of any or all of the events that weekend.

The weekend event will be held at the legendary Egyptian Theatre, 6712 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, CA. 90028.  Launched October 1, 2008, AniMazing Spotlight and its international animation review panel have been busy all year reviewing submitted shorts and planning the weekend festival programs. This November event is the culmination, with 44 shorts nominated in 12 categories. Audience members will be able to vote for the Audience Favorite Award. The winners will be announced on Sunday, November 8.  ASIFA International has extended a big hand in expanding our mission by inviting the winners to be on a DVD that will be shown at their chapters around the world.

The weekend will feature several engaging programs, plus a "Meet the Professionals" mixer, where young animators can meet with men and women working in the animation industry. The program luminaries include Eric Goldberg, who will present a live version of his best-selling book Crash Course on Character Animation; Bob Kurtz, dishing the inside scoop on animated commercials and movie titles; Bill Kroyer, revealing the earliest computer animation work in feature films, such as the first Tron; Jim Capobianco, will be stressing the importance of story in animation, illustrated with his Your Friend the Rat and Leonardo; Tom Sito, will be hitting the highlights of the history of animated shorts; Peter Sohn, demonstrating what it took to direct Partly Cloudy, the short that accompanied Pixar’s Up; and Yvette Kaplan and John Andrews, will be waxing nostalgic over the revolution in animated shorts at MTV.  All programs will be rich with film examples in this fascinating weekend for animation buffs, as well as anyone interested in the advancing techniques and creative styles that go into this mushrooming, multifaceted segment of the movie business.
