Running April 16-19, ANIMAZE Le MIAFF -- the Montreal International Animation Film Festival -- boasts four days of animation feature films, shorts, workshops, panel discussions, interactive performances and animation-themed parties, including the opening and closing night parties to be held at Rosalie on de la montagne.

The Festival will open with the 40th anniversary restoration of the X-rated animated feature, Shame of the Jungle (Tarzoon, la honte de la jungle), a French/Belgian co-production directed by cartoonist Picha and Boris Szulzinger and voiced by John Belushi, Bill Murray and Johnny Weissmuller Jr.

Also kicking things off is “The Land of the Magic Flute,” a live, interactive music performance of Mozart’s The Magic Flute produced by the German Interactive Media Foundation and performed by Montreal composer Philippe Lambert. The event will be streamed live with M, a streaming service for film festivals aimed at helping filmmakers gain recognition, distribution and reach.

A screening of the cult classic film, Heavy Metal, is also planned, with director Gerald Potterton in attendance.

ANIMAZE Le MIAFF will also present the Best of Fests, screening the winning short films from Annecy, the Ottawa International Film Festival, the Kanata First Nations collection, Fantasporto, HollyShorts, The Montreal Stop Motion Film Festival, and more. Films to be screened include Beauty, an exquisite short ode to the Italian renaissance, and World of Tomorrow by Don Hertzfeldt, the recipient of the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival and named Best Animated Short at SXSW.

In addition to a full lineup of screening events, Animaze Days offers a three-day conference program including a dozen events with stop motion master and Oscar winner Co Hoedeman, Erik Goulet, a live dance performance with Zelma Badu, and interactive performances that will engage the audience with the art of animation in all its forms.

The NFB on LSD: In Conversation with Christopher Nutter -- From musician and filmmaker off the beaten path, Nutter shares his fascinating perspective of the NFB during the psychedelic era with stories of Arthur Lipsett who refused Stanley Kubrick’s request to create the title sequence for Dr. Strangelove, Norman McClaren, the lion in the hallway, tales of legendary Montreal animator Ryan Larkin, and more.

Gerald Potterton: In Conversation -- Director of the iconic cult film Heavy Metal, the three-time Oscar nominee shares his stories animating the Beatles’ Yellow Submarine, directing Buster Keaton, and a spin of his rare record collection including a never heard before soundtrack composed by Ringo Starr.

ANIMAZE 2015 Le MIAFF is produced in partnership with TELETOON, filmfestivals.com and digitalarti.com. The 2015 poster was designed by Tom Tassel, and the festival trailer, Signal Clip, was created by Steve Woloshen.
