Anima Estudios’ ‘Legend Quest’ Debuts on Netflix This Friday!

Based on the characters created by Ricardo Arnaiz and the successful trilogy of children’s films created by Mexico’s Anima Estudios, ‘Las Leyendas,’ aka ‘Legend Quest,’ is the first Netflix series to be produced in Latin America.

Legend Quest (Las Leyendas), the first animated Netflix original series to be produced in Latin America, is headed for launch this Friday.

Based on the characters created by award-winning producer Ricardo Arnaiz, and the successful trilogy of children’s films created by Mexico’s Anima Estudios -- The Legend of the Nahuala (La Leyenda de la Nahuala), The Legend of the Llorona (La Leyenda de la Llorona) and The Legend of the Mummies (La Leyenda de las Momias) -- Legend Quest is written and produced by James Krieg (Spooksville).

Set in the 1800s, this whimsical adventure series centers on Leo San Juan, a reluctant but heroic teen boy with the ability to communicate with ghosts and monsters. One day, Leo’s hometown vanishes into another dimension, prompting Leo to join forces with a phantasmagorical group of misfits: Don Andrés, a somewhat loony yet amicable old knight; Teodora, a know-it-all social media whiz; Alebrije, a perpetually ravenous mythological creature; and Finado and Moribunda, two lively, ever charming sugar candy skulls.

This bizarre team must band together to defeat Quetzalcoatl, an inter-dimensional entity who has sought to conquer the universe for centuries. Leo and his fantastical friends will travel on a magic ship across time to the most famous and mystical places on Earth to fight off the evil forces that threaten the welfare of all.

Legend Quest is executive produced by Fernando de Fuentes and Jose C. Garcia de Letona of Anima Estudios, the studio behind animated hits such as El Chavo Animado and Top Cat: The Movie. In addition to Spooksville, Krieg is best known for his work as a writer and producer on popular series including Scooby-doo! Mystery Incorporated, Ben 10, and Justice League.

The first season of 13 episodes are set to premiere worldwide exclusively on Netflix on February 24.
