Amelie Director Joins Grand Large

Curious Pictures announced that it has joined forces with Grand Large, the Paris-based commercial production company, and will be working with Grand Larges new award-winning French director, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, director and writer of AMELIE and A VERY LONG ENGAGEMENT.

Grand Large has a compelling group of feature directors, and I am really excited about them and their work, said David Starr, exec producer/marketing director for Curious Pictures. If there is one director that I have always wanted to work with, it is Jean-Pierre Jeunet.

Jeunets work is some of the most intelligent and charming entertainment produced in the world. His artistic sensibility is unique. His creative relationship with Pitof and Marc Caro make these directors, a natural extension of the tradition that Curious Pictures has in visual effects and animation mixed with live action. To be able to offer a complement of live action/visual effects directors with the Curious Pictures visual effects studio is a dream come true, added Rachel Klein, head of sales for Grand Large and Curious Pictures in the U.S.

The mutually beneficial partnership between Curious Pictures and Grand Large affords Curious Pictures a base of highly acclaimed directors in France and provides Grand Large access and outreach to the U.S. market.

Our talented roster of live-action directors are excited to make good use of the new visual effects studio at Curious in New York, said Steve Horton, founder of Grand Large. And I know that Pitof and Marc Caro look forward to working on commercial projects in the U.S.

Jeunet is best known for LE FABULEUX DESTIN D'AMÉLIE POULAIN -- the 2001 award-winning tale of an innocent and naive girl as she searches for the meaning of life in Paris. Jeunet has again teamed up with Audrey Tautou in his latest film A VERY LONG ENGAGEMENT, which he is currently promoting.

Additionally, Curious has appointed Meredith Brown, head of production, and Rachel Klein, head of sales, to manage Grand Large, in the U.S. Grand Large will be represented by Rachel Klein and John Roberson in the East, Hot Betty in the Midwest and Siobhan McCafferty on the west coast.

Grand Large Inc., founded by Steve Horton, opened its doors in Paris on Sept. 4, 2001 to produce commercials for the international market. This followed the success of Hortons four years in France introducing directors Frederic Planchon, Sebastien Chantrell, Paul Vos and Marc Caro to the U.S. market, as well as bringing directors like Mike Bigelow and others into the French market. Grand Large Inc. represents directors of various nationalities including French, German, Japanese and American, most living in Paris, all speaking English fluently and all having a strong image and style.

Curious Pictures is a leading animation, design and visual effects studio located in New York. Curious directors have tallied 18 Emmy Awards, a Caldecott Honor, four commercials in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art and nine television series on Cartoon Network, HBO, Nickelodeon, Oxygen, MTV and VH1. Curious provides visual solutions with a unique portfolio of visual styles, including: graphics directors, animation directors and live action directors.
