Sony Pictures Imageworks to highlight "Stuart Little" at SIGGRAPH
Sony Pictures Imageworks will be highlighting its major forthcoming project Stuart Little, a live action film whose star is a fully digital photo-realistic character. Imageworks is
also engaged in production on Hollow Man, Cast Away, What Lies Beneath and What
Planet Are You From, working with such directors as Rob Minkoff, Paul Verhoeven,
Robert Zemeckis and Mike Nichols. Imageworks is home to some of the industry's
top talent, including visual effects supervisors Scott E. Anderson, Rob Legato,
John Dykstra, Jerome Chen and Pat McClung. Imageworks president, Ken Ralston,
recently announced plans to direct "Jumanji II."
Following upon it's great success last year, the Imageworks booth will feature
life drawing classes taught by George Suhayda, an Art Director for Sony
Pictures Imageworks. Special master classes on sculpture, digital character
modeling and storyboarding will also be presented in the booth.
Imagework's presence at SIGGRAPH99 also includes participation in the Electronic
Theater, two panels, one on "Credible Effects Versus Credible Science," on
Thursday afternoon at 4 PM and a special general session to be held at 6:30 on
Thursday when Leonard Maltin will lead a discussion with animation legends on
the importance of Character and Story. Rob Minkoff, the director of "Stuart
Little" and one of the directors of "The Lion King," Joe Barbera, creator of
"The Flintstones and Tom and Jerry, and Bill Kroyer are already scheduled to
participate.
Also of note, Siggraph's high def Documentary, The History of Computer Graphics,
which premieres at the show, was directed by
Frank Foster, Senior VP of Multimedia at Imageworks. Sony Pictures High
Definition Center provided the post production services for the documentary.
