Press Release from Bulldog Licensing

Bulldog Licensing has announced that classic brand Roobarb and Custard has linked up with animal charity the PDSA with a new range of fantastic T-Shirts, which have been modelled by Strictly Come Dancing star Alesha Dixon!

Roobarb, the madcap green dog, and his feline adversary Custard were created by Grange Calveley in the early 70's and were the stars of the Bob Godfrey directed BBC cartoon series Roobarb. Narrated by Richard Briers, only one series was made originally, but the trademark wobbly animation, zany storylines and the fiendishly catchy theme tune made the show into a cult sensation and it won a legion of devoted followers of all ages during the 70’s and 80’s. The dynamic duo returned to UK screens in 2005 with Roobarb and Custard Too, which has since broadcast continually on Channel Five, pulling in a whole new generation of fans.

The new ‘I Love Dogs’ and ‘I Love Cats’ t-shirts, which are available in two colours for both men and women, have been produced by Poetic Gem and are rolling out now, with a percentage of every sale going towards the PDSA. The charity provides medical care for over 400,000 pets each year and is currently raising funds to build three urgently needed pet hospitals.

The PDSA designs add to Poetic Gem’s fantastic Roobarb and Custard range, which is performing extremely well at retail. This is part of a strong licensing programme, which also includes greetings cards from Museums and Galleries, plush from PMS and canvas wall art from Riviera, whilst Mogzilla  has released a range of fully-illustrated books based on classic storylines from the show. Bulldog is also receiving a lot of interest from the pet accessories, mugs and gifts sectors.

“Roobarb and Custard and the PDSA is the absolute perfect match,” says Bulldog MD Rob Corney, “the T-Shirts look fantastic and are sure to go down a storm at retail!”
