Up for the role of Tetsuo are Robert Pattinson, Andrew Garfield and James McAvoy. Being eyed for Kaneda are Garrett Hedlund, Michael Fassbender, Chris Pine, Justin Timberlake and Joaquin Phoenix.
Steve Kloves just finished the latest draft, which moves the story to a futuristic Manhattan where a biker gang leader rescues his friend from a medical experiment. The film is based on Katsuhiro Otomo’s graphic novel. The plan is to adapt the first three volumes into one film and the last three into a second.
Albert Hughes is directing. Andrew Lazar and Appian Way’s Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson Killoran are the producers.
The studio hopes to start production in August.
