Press Release from AICE

New York, NY - January 28, 2010 - The 2010 AICE Awards competition has expanded its categories for eligibility to include a new Design category, open to work created by editors, digital artists and other professionals involved in design work for TV commercials, virals, web videos, music videos, spec spots, and PSAs.

Details of the new category can be found in the AICE Awards Call for Entries, which has just been posted on the organization's web site, www.aice.org.  Deadline for entries is February 19, 2010.

In addition, AICE has announced its first-ever general membership meeting, which will take place in Chicago on May 20 to coincide with the 2010 AICE Awards Show, which will be held that evening. The announcement of the membership meeting was made by AICE Executive Director Burke Moody.

Entries in the new AICE Awards Design category should demonstrate excellence in overall design accomplished primarily in post production. The individual submitting the entry-be it the editor, designer or artist-must have been the lead designer of the work. Any and all techniques are acceptable, from motion graphics to CGI to compositing and editorial collage. Excellence will be judged on art direction, pacing, impact, conceptual integrity and originality.

Moody explains that both developments are a response to changes in the business environment in which post production companies find themselves today.

"In addition to extraordinary editorial work, our members are increasingly being called on by clients to produce truly stunning and cutting edge design and visual effects work as well," he says.  "While we already have a Visual Effects category as part of the AICE Awards, it just makes sense to include our members' best design work in the competition as well."

Holding the first general membership meeting in May, Moody adds, is an acknowledgement of the fast-paced changes taking place in the post production industry, and will provide an opportunity for the organization to brief members on new initiatives, ongoing programs and the implementation of its recently revised bylaws.

"The business has been changing rapidly, and nowhere is this more apparent than in our sector of the media creation process," he states.  "We have a lot of information to share with members on issues of critical importance to their business, from procurement policies to evolving workflows, new delivery methods and game-changing advances in technology.  We feel the membership meeting will be of great benefit not just to AICE, but to the entire post production industry."
