ADV Films released volume five of AH! MY GODDESS: FLIGHTS OF FANCY and the new thin-packed GHOST STORIES COMPLETE COLLECTION on DVD Jan. 8, 2008.
AH! MY GODDESS has over 23 volumes currently published in the U.S. and several anime adaptations. Season two picks up right where season one left off, telling the stories of Keiichi and the angelic "goddess" Belldandy as they grow closer and closer.
Things were already grim with Mara around, but the situation becomes much more ominous when Hild -- the Ruler of all Demonkind -- arrives. But when Hild offers to resolve Mara's mess, the price may be more than Urd and Belldandy are willing to pay. Even then, Mara is not content to leave Keiichi and the goddesses alone. An undaunted Mara hatches yet another scheme to seek revenge on the foursome. On the other hand, when one of Skuld's new inventions doesn't work quite as planned, Keiichi soon realizes that not all his problems are related to demons.
AH! MY GODDESS: FLIGHTS OF FANCY -- THAT OLD BLACK MAGIC ($29.98) is an anamorphic DVD-only release including episodes 17-20, presented in both English and Japanese with English subtitles. Extras include a commentary track with Alyssa Brodsky (Marller) and Kevin Collins (Senbei), plus clean opening animation, clean closing animation and previews of upcoming ADV Films releases.
GHOST STORIES COMPLETE COLLECTION has sparked a fair amount of debate among anime enthusiasts. Just to be clear, ADV's English dub of GHOST STORIES follows the plot of the original exactly. But in place of a written script, ADR director Steven Foster simply blocked out scenes and let the actors go. The voice credits include Chris Patton, Christine Auten, Greg Ayres, Hilary Haag, Illich Guardiola, Monica Rial and Rob Mungle.
In the series, a reluctant ghost hunter, her babbling baby brother, a horny pre-teen, a nerd, a fundamentalist hottie and a demon-possessed cat join forces to hunt down specters.
GHOST STORIES COMPLETE COLLECTION ($49.98) is a DVD-only release including all 20 episodes of the TV series, presented in both English and Japanese with English subtitles, plus all the commentary tracks and other extras presented on the original serialized discs.
