Latino Review is reporting that Jared Harris (MAD MEN) is in final talks to play Sherlock Holmes' archrival Professor Moriarty. Robert Downey Jr. had been petitioning Brad Pitt to take the role, but a deal could not be worked out. Director Guy Ritchie's top choice was Daniel Day Lewis, but he couldn't land the Oscar-winning thespian.

Harris will join Downey Jr., Jude Law, Stephen Fry and Noomi Rapace. December 16, 2011 is the date set for the film's release.
