Sony Pictures has offered Kate Beckinsale one of the lead female roles in TOTAL RECALL, reports Deadline.com. She would play Lori, the wife of Colin Farrell's character Douglas Quaid. The other female role is Martian rebel Melina, which Eva Mendes and Rosario Dawson are circling. Len Wiseman, Beckinsale's husband, is directing. It was previously reported that Jessica Biel had been offered one of the roles, but it seems she either turned down the role or a deal couldn't be reached.

In the new version, Quaid (Farrell) is a factory worker who begins to believe he might be a spy for either Euromerica or New Shanghai after he visits a company that implants false memories in a person's mind. Bryan Cranston will play Euromerica leader Vilos Cohaagen who is planning a secret invasion of New Shanghai. The story is based on Philip K. Dick's WE CAN REMEMBER IT FOR YOU WHOLESALE.
