Singer Rihanna has joined the cast of Universal's boardgame adaptation BATTLESHIP, reports VARIETY. The cast also includes Alexander Skarsgard and Taylor Kitsch. Peter Berg is the director.

The story follows an international fleet fighting against a paranormal threat. Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber penned the script, with rewrites from Brian Koppelman and David Levien.

Berg, Film 44's Sarah Aubrey, Hasbro's Brian Goldner and Bennett Schneir, and Scott Stuber are the producers.

The film is set for release on May 25, 2012.
