MTV reports from Comic Con that Brad Pitt is set to star in the big screen adaptation of Max Brooks' zombie apocalypse novel WORLD WAR Z. Pitt's Plan B Ent. acquired the rights to the book back in 2007.

The story follows first hand accounts of survivors of a zombie outbreak. BABYLON 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski penned the script with rewrites from Matthew Michael Carnahan. Marc Forster (QUANTUM OF SOLACE) is set to helm.

Paramount hopes to have the film in theaters in summer 2012.

Brooks also reports that Paramount has optioned his THE ZOMBIE SURVIVAL GUIDE book and THE ZOMBIE SURVIVAL GUIDE: RECORDED ATTACKS graphic novel.
