Neil Patrick Harris Smurfy for Lead

Deadline.com reports that HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER star Neil Patrick Harris has inked a deal to play the live-action lead in Sony's SMURFS. Who Harris will play was not revealed, so whether he's taking on the role of villain Gargamel or a live-action hero is unknown.

The live-action/animation combo will be directed by Raja Gosnell from a script by J. David Stem and David N. Weiss. Production will start in April.
