Kurt Russell Takes Costner's Place in Django Unchained

Kurt Russell is in negotiations to take the role in Quentin Tarantino's DJANGO UNCHAINED recently vacated by Kevin Costner, reports Heat Vision. Russell's character Ace is a ruthless slave trainer.

The film follows freed slave Django (Jamie Foxx) as he trains with a German bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) in order to save his wife from sadistic plantation owner, Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio).

The cast also includes Samuel L. Jackson, Dennis Christopher and Gerald McRaney. Stacey Sher, Pilar Savone and Reginald Hudlin are the producers alongside exec producers Harvey Weinstein, Michael Shamberg and Jim Skotchdopole.

The Weinstein Company will handle the U.S. release, while Sony Pictures holds the international rights. The film will break into theaters on Dec. 25, 2012.
