Vanessa Hudgens is in talks to take the female lead in JOURNEY 2: THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Josh Hutcherson, Dwayne Johnson and Michael Caine have already signed on to the JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH 3D sequel.

Hutcherson will reprise his role as Sean Anderson. In this film, Anderson and his mother's boyfriend (Johnson) will venture to a mysterious island to rescue his grandfather (Caine). Hudgens would play his Pacific Islander love interest.

Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson are producing.

Filming will start later this month, shooting in North Carolina and Hawai'i.
