Deadline.com reports that Ryan Gosling is in final talks to take the lead in Warner Bros.' LOGAN'S RUN. BRONSON director Nicolas Winding Refn is helming. He worked with Gosling on the actioner DRIVE, which arrives in September.

Based on William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson's novel, the story follows a man who flees from his society's mandatory execution at a given age. In the book it was 20, but in the film it was 30. The book inspired the 1976 film, starring Michael York, as well as a TV spin-off.

The redux first garnered attention when Bryan Singer championed the project. After Singer left, Robert Schwentke (RED), James McTeigue (V FOR VENDETTA) and Joseph Kosinski (TRON: LEGACY) all circled the project, but it never took off.

Alex Garland has penned the script. Silver Pictures' Joel Silver and Andrew Rona, and Weed Road's Akiva Goldsman are producing. Kerry Foster is the exec producer.
