Joel Edgerton (WARRIOR) is in negotiations to lead Warner Bros.' 300: BATTLE OF ARTEMISIA, reports Vulture. Noam Murro (SMART PEOPLE) is directing.

Based on Frank Miller's graphic novel XERXES, the story tells the tale of Persian ruler Xerxes trying to become a god after his father Darius told him that only God could kill the Greeks. Darius suffered mortal injuries in the Battle of Marathon against the Greeks.

Zack Snyder and Kurt Johnstad penned the script. Snyder was set to direct before he left the project to helm MAN OF STEEL.

Zack Synder, Deborah Snyder, Mark Canton, Gianni Nunnari, Thomas Tull and Bernie Goldmann are producing. Legendary Pictures is back as the production company.
