It seems STAR TREK 2 will be looking for a new villain as it gains RoboCop. Vulture reports that Benicio Del Toro has backed away from playing the bad guy in J.J. Abrams' STAR TREK sequel. The rumors are that the villain will be Khan, but Abrams has denied those reports.

But in good news from Variety, ROBOCOP star Peter Weller has been cast in a still secret role. He joins returning cast members Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, as well as franchise newcomer Alice Eve.

Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof penned the script. Abrams, Kurtzman, Orci, Lindelof, Bryan Burk, and David Ellison are the producers.

Filming will start in early 2012. The stardate for the film's release is May 17, 2013.
