Tom Cruise is in talks to take the lead in Guillermo del Toro's AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS, reports MTV. Producer James Cameron revealed the news that they hope to sign on Cruise soon and start production in either June or July. Del Toro and Matthew Robbins are working on a new rewrite of the script they have been working on for 12 years.

Based on H.P. Lovecraft's classic horror tale, the story follows geologist William Dyer on an expedition to Antarctica where he discovers frightening proof of an ancient alien civilization.
