Deadline.com reports that George Clooney is walking away from Steven Soderbergh’s The Man From U.N.C.L.E. adaptation. The reasons are yet unclear. Warner Bros. is still eager to start production in February. This could be the last directing effort for Soderbergh who has been contemplating retirement.

The TV series on which the film is based ran from 1964-68. The story follows the spy team of American Napoleon Solo (Robert Vaughn) and Russian Illya Kuryakin (David McCallum).
