Chris Pine is negotiating a deal with Paramount Pictures that would see him play CIA analyst Jack Ryan in a continuation of the franchise based on the Tom Clancy novels, Variety reports.

If Pine secures the role it would be his second high-level franchise. He played James Kirk in STAR TREK and will have a role in the sequel as well.

The character has been played by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck in previous films.
