New Line and Walden Media have decided to moved ahead on JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH 2 without director Eric Brevig and star Brendan Fraser, reports Deadline.com. The studios have decided to bring on CATS & DOGS: THE REVENGE OF KITTY GALORE helmer Brad Peyton as the director. The sequel will now focus on Josh Hutcherson's character Sean instead of Fraser's Prof. Trevor Anderson.

Deadline.com reports there is however an outside chance Fraser will return. For the third MUMMY film, he held out and eventually came back to the franchise without co-star Rachel Weisz.

It's good to hear a new director is being picked. The first remake with Brendan Fraser was horrible. Despite the fact that the director was a visual effects supervisor, the visuals were extremely unimaginative and boring. I think I should've been paid to watch it, instead of paying to see it.
