Alice Eve (SHE'S OUT OF MY LEAGUE) has been cast in J.J. Abrams' STAR TREK sequel, reports Variety. The word is she will play a new character to the franchise. She beat out Teresa Palmer (I AM NUMBER FOUR) and Hayley Atwell (CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER) for the part. Eve would join fellow newcomer Benicio del Toro, who is in talks to play an unnamed classic villain. The original cast, which includes Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, are all set to return.

Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof are writing the screenplay. Abrams, Kurtzman, Orci, Lindelof, Bryan Burk and David Ellison are the producers of the Paramount, Bad Robot and Skydance production.

Filming is set to start early 2012 with the 3-D film arriving in theaters on May 17, 2013.
