Acme Filmworks Rewrites The Rules With Riverwind Casino Spot

Acme Filmworks has completed series of spots for Oklahomas Riverwind Casino, an enterprise of the Chickasaw Nation. The animation of award-winning director Aleksandra Korejwo meets the razzmatazz world of Las Vegas-style Indian gaming in commercials that marry the visceral excitement of the casino with the beauty of a Native American sand painting.

I developed my own technique of animation, says Korejwo, whose style of animation is achieved through the manipulation of colored salt using a condor feather. I animate directly under the camera and destroy the first picture to create the next one. When Im finished, all that remains is the salt on the floor. The life of the material exists only for a few minutes, but it remains in the imagination of the audience.

The four-spot Be Swept Away campaign, developed by Ackerman McQueen/Dallas, was the brainchild of cco David Lipson and senior art director Rob Neatherlin. The Casino is a majestic current of visual excitement. We wanted to capture the essence of sweeping motion and constant change with the commercials, Lipson said.

Korejwo and the agency collaborated to transform icons of the gaming world playing cards, chips, slot machines, music, and cocktails into a symphony of color and form.

Aleksandras unusual technique and limitless imagination allowed us to create a series of commercials of great beauty, said exec producer Ron Diamond. They not only encapsulate all of the excitement and glamour of the casino, but transport the viewer into a magical world where anything is possible.

Aleksandra Korejwo was born in Poznan, Poland and graduated from the Department of Graphics (the Division of Psychophysiology of Sight) at the Academy of Fine Arts there. Her short films inspired by classical music include THE SWAN (1990), EXSULTATE JUBILATE ALLELUJA (1991), ON THE BEAUTIFUL BLUE DANUBE (1993) and three films based on George Bizets opera, CARMEN CARMEN SUITE (1994), CARMEN HABANERA (1995) and CARMEN TORERO (1996). Her work has appeared extensively on Polish television and she has also made a number of commercials in conjunction with Acme Filmworks, including spots for the Colorado Lottery, Jiffy Lube, Campbells Soup and the Austin Lyric Opera.
