Acme Filmworks announces the release of the Giants’ First Steps, a collection of 25 student films by 15 of Hollywood’s greatest animated feature film directors.
HOLLYWOOD, CA – Acme Filmworks has announced the release of the Giants’ First Steps, a collection of 25 student films by 15 of Hollywood’s greatest animated feature film directors.
Curated by Acme Filmworks’ executive producer Ron Diamond in collaboration with The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the collection features selected work of prolific animation directors including Brenda Chapman (Brave), *Ron Clements (Aladdin), *Pete Docter (Up), *Eric Goldberg (Pocahontas), *Kevin Lima (Enchanted), *Mike Mitchell (Shrek Forever After), John Musker (The Little Mermaid), Nick Park (Wallace & Gromit), Carlos Saldanha (Ice Age), *Chris Sanders (The Croods), *Henry Selick (Coraline), *David Silverman (The Simpsons Movie), Andrew Stanton (Toy Story), Chris Wedge (Epic) and *Kirk Wise (Beauty and the Beast).
As the Academy’s annual Marc Davis Lecture in Animation, The Giants’ First Steps will be presented on Monday, July 22, as the keynote session at SIGGRAPH 2013. All directors noted with an (*) above will be featured in person at the event along with excerpts of their films.
Creative postproduction facility Cinelicious provided 4K restoration services for The Giants’ First Steps, which includes films originally spanning S8mm, 16mm and 35mm formats. The extended-play DVDs with bonus material and a 20-page booklet will be offered for sale at SIGGRAPH booth 863. Please check with the booth crew for scheduled director signings.
A one-hour program featuring the collection will also be presented during SIGGRAPH as part of the Daytime Selects program at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, July 22, Tuesday, July 23, and Wednesday, July 24.
