Academy Opens Oscar Voting for Animated Shorts

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is now allowing its entire membership to vote for Best Animated Short.

In a change of policy, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is now allowing its entire membership to vote for Best Animated Short, according to a report by GoldDerby.com.

Voting was also opened up for the Best Documentary Feature and Best Live Action Short categories.

“For the first time this year, our entire membership will be able to vote in three additional categories,” AMPAS president Hawk Koch wrote in a letter emailed to voters on Saturday. “The Academy will be sending you DVD screeners of the nominated films from these three categories before final voting begins.”

Animated short films nominated this year for an Academy Award include Disney's Paperman, PES' Fresh Guacamole, Minkyu Lee's Adam and Dog, David Silverman's Maggie Simpson in "The Longest Daycare" and Timothy Reckart and Fodhla Cronin O'Reilly's Head over Heels.
