Inspector Clouseau and his animated buddy returned to top the box office in the Sony Pictures' remake of the PINK PANTHER (2D animated titles by Kurtz & Friends), which debuted $20.2M for the weekend ended Feb. 12, 2006. Audiences obviously weren't tired of sequels either as New Line's FINAL DESITNATION 3 opened in the No. 2 spot with $19.2M. Scampering into a respectable third place on its debut was the 2D-animated CUROUS GEORGE from Universal and Imagine Ent., taking in $14.7M. Moviegoers obviously were ready for fresh film, giving another new release, Warner Bros. FIREWALL, fourth place with a take of $13.6. Dropping to fifth place was Screen Gems remake of WHEN A STRANGER CALLS scared up another $9.1M for fifth place and a cume of $33.9M. Fox's BIG MOMMA'S HOUSE 2 slipped to sixth with $6.9M and a three-week cume of $54.9M.
Following in seventh was Universal's NANNY MCPHEE (with vfx from Framestore CFC), bringing home $4.9M and $32.9M. Focus Features' Oscar favorite, BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN (with vfx from Buzz Image Group), moved down to the eighth spot with $4M, and now has a $66.4M cume. Screen Gems's UNDERWORLD: EVOLUTION rose to ninth place, with $2.4 and a $57.4 cume.
