2009 Educational Television Awards Call for EntriesDeadline: April 17, 2009

The Royal Television Society has launched the call for entries for the 2009 Educational Television Awards. The awards aim to recognize outstanding contributions to the educational use of television content available across platforms, including terrestrial TV and online.

Now in their 28th year, the awards acknowledge the best of educational programming from independent producers and broadcasters. Content eligible for entry ranges from schools programming to factual education TV in arts, science and life skills; from programs and series that have had educational impact in the primetime schedule to those which have shown innovation.

The award categories:-- Schools:* 0-5 years - for a television program or series of educational value for use in the home or at school* 5-11 years / 11-16 years /14-19 years - for a program or other televisual content distributed by broadcast or online in schools or colleges* Television Program for Use in Schools - for a TV program or a series of programs, 15 minutes or longer, aimed at a schools audience and linked to a National Curriculum subject or topic from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 4

-- Adult:* Training - for a program or substantial televisual content within a multi-media package which offers or supports training or professional development on broadcast television or broadband* Campaigns and Seasons (RTS/NIACE Award) - for a broadcaster, campaign or season of programs and support material* Factual Education - for programs or projects that provide viewers with real understanding of a difficult or complex subject:-- Arts - to include history, arts, media, religion and philosophy-- Science - to include science, maths, engineering, economics and business-- Life Skills - program or project that provides significant educational value to its audience within their own lives

-- Educational Impact in the Primetime Schedule:Recognizing the broad educational impact of the very best drama and factual programs on primetime television* Single Program* Series

-- Innovation in Education:For a program or project that has made a significant educationally innovative use of television or televisual material -- judged for educational innovation, not innovations in technology or production

Entries must have first been transmitted between 1 January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2008 in the UK. Entries will be accepted from broadcasters and independent production companies. Cost of entry is 172.50 GBP (Inc. VAT). The closing date for entries is Friday, April 17, 2009. The awards dinner will be held on Monday, June 15, 2009.
