2002 – 2003 Primetime Emmy Awards Nominations

Nominations for the 55th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards were announced on July 17, 2003 and Nickelodeon won the most primetime Emmy nominations for animated shows with four, narrowly edging out FOX with three. THE SIMPSONS and FUTURAMA were again nominated for Outstanding Animated Program (For Programming Less Than One Hour) along with Nick's AS TOLD BY GINGER and SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS, while DISNEY'S KIM POSSIBLE on the Disney Channel rounded out the category. THE SIMPSONS also received a nomination for Outstanding Music And Lyrics, while Nick's THE FAIRLY ODDPARENTS received two noms in that g category. Usual favorites SOUTH PARK and KING OF THE HILL did not make the final cut.

UPN's ENTERPRISE, from Paramount Pictures, received three noms for Outstanding Special Visual Effects For A Series, with the other two slots going to BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER on UPN and FIREFLY on FOX.

Discovery Channel's CHASED BY DINOSAURS received the only nomination in the Outstanding Animated Program (For Programming One Hour Or More).

Disney's Lizzie McGuire, a live-action series, with an animated co-star, was nominated Outstanding Childrens Program.

Additional awards may also be given for the "juried areas" (nominations) of Voice Over Performance and Individual Achievement in Animation. The announcement of these awards, if any, will be released on August 11. Additional awards may also be given for Engineering Development, Interactive Television Programming and the Governors Award. These awards, if any, will be announced on July 21.

Awards for the majority of animation and visual effects categories will be presented on Saturday, September 13, 2002 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, in a non-televised ceremony produced by Spike Jones Jr. The main program categories and honors for acting and writing will be handed out during the telecast at the Shrine September 21 on FOX.
