1st Annual Japanese Animation Festival

* Friday, April 21 - Saturday April 22, 2000. Long Beach, California, U.S.A. The Richard And Karen Carpenter Performing Arts Center is presenting the 1st Annual Japanese Animation Festival. Films screened on Friday will include: ROUJIN Z, from the creator of AKIRA; ALEXANDER THE GREAT, a new series from Peter Chung, creator of MTV's AEON FLUX; and the cult-hit WICKED CITY. On Saturday, the featured films will be CATNAPPED!, a YELLOW SUBMARINE-styled children's film; original series pilots from the first three Japanese animation series to cross over to American, ASTRO BOY, GIGANTOR and KIMBA, THE WHITE LION; a Bandai series sample, including GUNDAM WING, BLUE SUBMARINE and COWBOY BEBOP; THE CASTLE OF CAGLIOSTRO by Hayao Miyazaki; SPRIGGAN; ARMITAGE III: POLY-MATRIX, a feature version of the animated series; award-winning GRAVE OF THE FIREFLIES; and the cult-hit PETSHOP OF HORRORS. The screenings on Friday start at 7 pm and Saturday at 10 am. Tickets for each screening are $7; $5 for students, seniors, CSULB & ASIFA-Hollywood Members. Friday only fest passes are $15; $10 for students, seniors, CSULB & ASIFA-Hollywood Members. Saturday only child (12 and under) fest passes (not valid for films screened after 8 pm) are $10. Saturday only fest passes for adults are $25; $20 for students, seniors, CSULB & ASIFA-Hollywood Members. Full fest passes are $30; $25 for students, seniors, CSULB & ASIFA-Hollywood Members.
