ANIMATION WORLD MAGAZINE - ISSUE 5.02 - MAY 2000

Commercials and Visual Effects,
June 2000

Animation World Magazine takes a look at commercials, visual effects and the summer’s biggest films in this issue. J. Paul Peszko is going inside General Motors’ car commercials which are some of the highest budgeted seconds on television — and completely computer generated to boot. Karen Raugust is profiling the companies who are taking ad time with our favorite Webisodes. What are these companies hoping to gain by investing early in this revolution?

We are also featuring articles on Disney’s monster budgeted film, Dinosaur, Fox’s Titan, A.E. and Chicken Run. Wendy Jackson is going to interview Dinosaur lead animator Mike Belser and hear about his change from stop-motion to computer animation. Larry Lauria is going to interview Don Bluth and Gary Goldman from the long-awaited Titan, A.E. Finally, Andrew Osmond is going behind the scenes of Chicken Run, with an exciting trip to the Aardman studios. We are also going to pay tribute to June Foray as Rocky and Bullwinkle hit the big screen. As if that isn’t enough...we are also going to be kicking off a very exciting new series involving the new direct-to-video Casper’s Haunted Christmas.

In other features we will be showcasing a special historical profile of the Zagreb World Festival of Animated Films by Borivoj Dovnikovic, who has been involved with the festival since its inception. Glenn Vilppu is starting a new series of articles based on his new book about sketching on location. Lee Dannacher, Jackie Kubin and Maureen Furniss will continue their monthly columns, while we will also be hearing from E3 and about the new Kimba the White Lion releases from Fred Patten. Fred will also be reviewing the new Anime Trivia Quizbook 1. Let’s see if it stands up to the test!
