Acting Instructor Ed Hooks taught an Acting for Animators workshop at his studio. This class was the first such class Hooks has taught in San Francisco since last September and featured topics such as character analysis, essential acting principles for animators, importance of empathy and how to achieve it in your work, power centers and Laban Movement Analysis. Hooks has conducted workshops on-site for animation companies like Will Vinton Studios and OddWorld Inhabitants. The workshop was held from 10 am - 5 pm at a cost of US$125. The 10th International Trickfilm Festival presented the best animated productions from the past two years. More than 500 films were screened at the festival. The Best of Animation included a selection of the most interesting films in the history of artistic, animated film. Young Animation was a competition featuring animated film schools and colleges. The festival also presented the International Panorama, Tricks for Kids, a retrospective of William Kentridge's work, as well as workshops and exhibitions. As part of the "Focus On The Filmmakers" series, American Film Institute (AFI) and ASIFA-Hollywood presented "The Making of The Road To El Dorado." El Dorado follows the misadventures of a pair of roguish small-time con artists (voiced by Kevin Kline and Kenneth Branagh) who inadvertently stowaway to the New World and end up discovering the fabled Lost City of Gold. Special guests include: Don Paul, co-director; Bibo Bergeron, co-director; Kristof Serrand, lead animator; and Rodolphe Guenoden, lead animator. The event began at 6:30 pm.
