ANIMATION WORLD MAGAZINE - ISSUE 4.10 - JANUARY 2000

Blush...
Good work gathering those articles on Japanese animation for the December issue. Animation World will score hits from QCA students next term (February - May 2000).

Hearing Voices
I'm writing because I am interested in trying to get into the voice over business for cartoons. I'm not famous, and I've never had an acting lesson in my life, but I would like to get some information on where to start. I know a lot of people in the field get agents, take acting lessons and so on, but for the average Joe, I'd like to get a piece of the pie too. I have recently moved to Southern California and into the back yard of a lot of production companies. I'm sure that will be a big help. Please send information if possible.

Thanks,
Michele Pennypacker

I'm a 39 year-old cop from California. I have quite a few voices in my throat and am interested in getting into the voice over business. How do I get started?

Thanks,
Kevin Corvin

I found your Web site quite by accident and am thoroughly intrigued. I always thought voice acting jobs were done by dics jockeys and actors. How can I get more information about this type of job? I am about to retire from an accounting job that I have had for 30 years and need something to do in my retirement years. Would something like this be possible for me? I am going to look further into your site as well.

Thank you,
Mary Alice Kline

Editor's Note: You folks have asked a frequent question, so here's a little advice. If you search our Animation World Magazine Archives utilizing the word "voice" under "Search Abstracts" you will come up with a number of useful entries, including but not limited to: "Voice Acting 101," "Getting That First Voiceover Role," "Hearing From The Hercules Celebrities," "An Interview With Kris Zimmerman On Voice Directing & Timing" and "Jamie Thomason: Casting and Directing Disney Television."

In the meantime, especially for those of you located in Southern California, call 818-508-7578 and subscribe to the quarterly Voice Over Resource Guide. This guide has frequently updated information on casting services, talent agencies, training and demo producers. Hope this helps. Good luck!
