LAIFF! We Want You...And Your Films. The Los Angeles Independent Film Festival has put out a call for submissions for its April 13-18, 2000 event. The deadline for submissions is January 7, 2000. The six year-old festival showcases the best in independent music videos from North America. Music videos that were completed after January 1, 1998 can be submitted on 1/2" VHS. Lovebytes Beckons. Lovebytes Digital Arts Festival 2000 invites entries of film, video, multimedia and net art to feature in a substantial exhibition of digital work for exhibition in April, 2000. In its fifth year, the festival features a mixture of digital art and media including exhibitions, seminars, screenings, specially commissioned artworks, alongside workshops and live performances from some of the world's most innovative digital sound and multimedia artists. All events will be staged in Sheffield's Media and Exhibition Centre. If you produce film/video, multimedia or net art this is your opportunity to be seen. If selected, your work will be presented alongside a three day conference which will explore the theme of "Digital Originals" through critical debate, presentations and workshops. Zagreb Would Love To Grab Your Film. In preparation for the 14th World Festival of Animated Films, Zagreb 2000 has started taking entries. Entry forms must be received by February 1, 2000 and films on VHS (for selection only), Betacam SP PAL, or film prints must be received by March 1, 2000. Imagine Calls For Canadian Kids. The Center for Digital Imaging and Sound has launched Imagine 2000 -- the first Western Canadian high school media arts competition. The event will offer 11th and 12th graders from BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba the chance to win CA$200,000 in media scholarships. Categories include animation, game development, Web site design, video and film production, sound and music composition, graphic design, and fine art. This festival gives any creative student the rare chance to get his or her work out to the public. The deadline for entries is April 27, 2000. Brisbane Beckons! April 6-9, 2000, The Brisbane International Animation Festival will represent Australia in the international animation festival alliance with Ottawa, Holland, Fantoche and Anima Mundi animation festivals. It is Australia's only festival dedicated exclusively to animation in all of its forms. Playing host to national and international guests who will gather in Brisbane, Australia, to experience the best of world class animation, the festival provides a local, national and international forum for the appreciation of the art and diversity of animation. Programming will include an International Competition, National Commercials Competition, Retrospectives, Gay and Lesbian Themes in Animation, Seminars, Late Night Features and Children's Components. Stop-motion master, Ray Harryhausen will open the Festival as guest of honor. The Festival tours from Brisbane to Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Darwin, Perth, Cairns, Canberra, Hobart and other major regional centers. Let Your Toons Make Their Way To Norway. After 6 years, the organizers of the Oslo Animation Festival have moved operations to Fredrikstad, Norway. Complete with a new name, the Nordic and Baltic Animation Festival invites both animators and spectators on May 3-5, 2000 to take part in an event dedicated to promoting the screening and better understanding of animation. This year's festival presents: Nordic and Baltic films in competition, International highlights, a Focus on Canadian animation, Paul Driessan as Guest of Honor, Animated Special Effects, a Celebration of Oskar Fischinger, Jury Progams, Exhibitions and even more. The deadline for VHS submissions to the festival is February 1, 2000.
