Rhino Records Releases Stan Freberg Collection. Los Angeles-based Rhino Records has released Tip Of The Freberg, a four CD box set that also includes a video and a booklet. Stan Freberg is probably best known to animation fans as the voice of Junyer Bear, Bertie the mouse, and Pete Puma in various Warner Bros. shorts, as well as the beaver in Lady And The Tramp, but Freberg, who has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, has also won many awards for his comedy records and commercials. This great collection spans Freberg's entire career, 1950 to 1998, and includes many gems such as "John and Marsha," "Saint George and the Dragonet" (with Daws Butler and June Foray), "Green Christmas," and the recent "The Conspiraski Theory," a music video that links Monica Lewinsky, Tara Lipinski, and Uni-bomber Ted Kaczynski on the basis of their names. One of the CDs features a collection of never-released radio spots, and the video features his very funny commercials, including two that are animated. The collection retails for US$59.98.

Rhino Releases Go Simpsonic With The Simpsons. On November 2, 1999 Rhino Records will release Go Simpsonic With The Simpsons, musical selections from the often very musical The Simpsons. Consisting of more than 50 tracks of songs, themes, and underscore music, Go Simpsonic not only picks up where its predecessor, Songs In The Key Of Springfield, left off, but also digs deep into the first nine seasons, capturing selections that didn't make it onto the first collection. GO SIMPSONIC also makes available for the first time four never-before-heard outtakes. Tracks include: "We Put The Spring In Springfield," "You're Checkin' In," "Canyonero," "Cletus The Slack-Jawed Yokel!," the entire Simpsoncalifragilisticexpial (Annoyed Grunt)cious Medley, "Poochie Rap Song," "Mr. Sparkle Theme," "The Presidents' Song," and a never-before-heard duet between Patty & Selma, "We Love To Smoke." Go Simpsonic With The Simpsons will be available beginning November 2 for $16.98 CD/$10.98 cassette.

Speed Racer Dream Car Becomes Real. Every fan who dreamed of building a car like Speed Racer's Mach 5 will be interested to know that Speed's ultra-cool car is finally being built by Long Beach, California-based Focus on Cars, an automotive fabrication company that caters to the entertainment and advertising industry. The car will be used to promote a nation-wide safety tour conducted by The Child Safety Network (CSN) called Child Safety Day At The Races. The Mach 5 will privately debut at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show - ITE '99, November 2-5, 1999, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The SEMA Show - ITE is the automotive aftermarket's largest trade show held yearly at the Las Vegas Convention Center. SEMA is the top advocacy group representing the $21.3 billion automotive aftermarket industry. The Mach 5 will include much of the specialty "equipment" found on the animated Mach 5 including the (dangerous looking) saw blade cutters at the front of the car, the ability to jump through a special hydraulics system and even such animatronics as interactive voice responses to steering wheel mounted buttons. "We are having a lot of fun building the car," said Ron Kasumi, owner of Focus on Cars. "When you have a car that is supposed to have 50,000 horse power, fly through the air, drive under water and jump over great distances, you have to use a lot of imagination." Total cost to build the Mach 5 is estimated to be between $175,000 and $200,000. The Speed Racer television series, an English dubbed version of a Japanese series about the adventures of a race car driver and his friends, debuted in the US in 1967.
