The Museum of Television and Radio in New York and Los Angeles hosts a retrospective of Hanna-Barbera's television series with a series of 60-minute screenings. The series includes Scooby-Doo, The Fantastic Four, Space Ghost, Superfriends, Josie And The Pussycats, Magilla Gorilla, Top Cat, Ricochet Rabbit, and Yogi Bear. The new Spumco/Cartoon Network Yogi Bear shorts have sparked a debate among fans regarding the quality of Hanna-Barbera's Yogi Bear shorts in particular, and Hanna-Barbera's television output in general. To celebrate the US premiere of Studio Ghibli's Princess Mononoke, directed by Hayao Miyazaki, Studio Ghibli retrospectives are being held throughout the United States. Sony Wonder Technology Lab, a center for high-tech entertainment and education, hosted All Eyes on CGI. The presentation featured a representative from Sony Pictures Imageworks, whose talent and technology contributed to the upcoming feature film Stuart Little in which for the first time ever, audiences are introduced to a three-dimensional, photo-realistic, performance based, computer generated movie star. The International Museum of Comic Art presents The Art of Charles M. Schulz, creator of the comic strip, Peanuts. The exhibit displays artifacts, photos, magazine covers, Broadway and movie posters, toys, dolls, blow-ups of historic strips and more tracing the decade-by-decade evolution of Schulz' creation in the context of American history. MIPCOM: International Film and Programme Market for TV, Video, Cable, and Satellite. Thousands of producers, programmers and broadcasters converged on Cannes, France for the MIPCOM and MIP Junior markets. From Reed-Midem, the organizers of MIP-TV, MIP Asia and MILIA, MIPCOM is known as the place where international television deals happen. Among the properties offered were Sony Wonder's Lion Of Oz And The Badge Of Courage, an animated musical prequel to The Wizard Of Oz; TMS-Kyokuichi Corp.'s Monster Rancher; and Pokémon. The 7th annual MIPCOM Junior ran October 1-3, followed by the 15th annual MIPCOM International Film and Program Market for TV, Video, Cable and Satellite, October 4-8. Ray Harryhausen appeared at the REZNHEDZ Model and Toy Show at the Hillside Holiday Inn just outside Chicago on October 9 and 10. The Chicago International Film Festival also sponsored two events in conjunction with the REZNHEDZ show. On Thursday, October 7 the festival screened Jason And The Argonauts and Golden Voyage Of Sinbad, and on Sunday, October 10 they had a tribute to Ray Harryhausen. The Toronto Animated Image Society presented "Recent Films by Toronto Animators," including Arnie Lipsey, Eugene Fedorenko, Rose Newlove, Willy Ashworth, Gerry Lagendyk and Patrick Jenkins. This event was held at Cinecycle, 129 (Rear Laneway) Spadina Avenue. Admission was free for TAIS members, and CN$4 for everyone else. Memberships were available at the door.

* Friday, October 8 - Thursday, October 14. Hollywood, California, USA.
The Man Behind The Mouse: The Ub Iwerks Story played for one week at Disney's El Capitan theater. Directed by Ub's granddaughter, Leslie Iwerks, this is a documentary about the man who helped Walt Disney create the first Mickey Mouse films, animating some of them nearly single-handedly, as well as the Silly Symphony series, and helming his own animation studio. It features never-before-seen archival footage, photos, previously censored cartoon clips, and interviews with Roy Disney, Chuck Jones, John Lasseter, Ollie Johnston, Marc Davis, Leonard Maltin, Joe Adamson, and Ub's eldest son, Don, among others. Jeffrey Scott spoke at the Women In Animation Writers' Seminar Series at Saban Entertainment. Jeffrey has written over 450 animation scripts and has won three Emmys and the Humanitas Prize. FableVision Studios and The Film Studies Program at Boston College co-hosted the ASIFA-East Animation Festival for a one-night showing. FableVision's award-winning animated shorts The Blue Shoe and Living Forever were part of a line-up, which also included the Academy Award-winner Bunny. Admission was free.
