The 1999 Golden Marble Awards show and conference program was a multi-track large-scale event aimed at professionals who are marketing, promoting and advertising to kids. Women In Animation Writers Group presented guest speaker Lydia Marano, whose credits include Gargoyles, Spider-Man, Phantom 2040, Conan And The Young Warriors, and Rescue Rangers. Women In Animation Shorts Fest I was a showcase for short animated films made by Women In Animation members and other filmmakers from around the world. This evening's program included films by Suzanne Franzel (Germany), Jaime Levy (USA), and Wendy Tilby and Amanda Forbis (Canada). It took place at Santa Monica College, Academy of Entertainment and Technology, 1440 Stewart Street, (by Olympic and 26th). Admission was free and open to the public.
* Saturday, September 11, 11:30 am. Beverly Hills, California, USA.
Families could meet Scooby-Doo and investigate the arts while listening to music at the Beverly Hills children's bookstore, Storyopolis. Scooby-Doo was available for photos, and while listening to the Kid Rhino audio release, Scooby-Doo And The Witch's Ghost (which ties in with the direct to video title due out on October 5), the kids were able to participate in arts and crafts, interactive storytelling, and a raffle with prizes where everyone was a winner. (The participation fee for the arts and crafts' materials was $6.00 per child.)

The Giant Screen Theater Association (GSTA) Annual Meeting. Mark Osborne's MORE, the experimental large format short film sponsored by the Large Format Cinema Association (LFCA) and nominated for a 1998 Academy Award, was one of the New Film presentations. The New Film screenings at GSTA gave operators of institutional and commercial large format theaters the opportunity to consider the film for their venues. To celebrate Scooby Doo's 30th Anniversary, there was a Scooby Doo Birthday Celebration Party Cruise. The cruise took place aboard the M.V. Matt Groening, creator of The Simpsons and Futurama, spoke at the 1999 Portland Creative Conference. He was joined by Eugenio Zanetti, production designer for What Dreams May Come, Disney producer Don Hahn, and nationally syndicated cartoonist John Callahan. The Conference included speaker presentations, panel discussions, sneak preview film screenings, an opening night kick-off celebration, and a closing night wrap party, and was held at the Portland Center for the Performing Arts.

THAT '70s - '80s CARTOON SHOW!, sponsored by Van Eaton Galleries and ASIFA-Hollywood. Tom Sito hosted an evening with Filmation directors Tom Tataranowicz and Ed Friedman; Lou Scheimer, Filmation's founder; Hanna-Barbera's Jerry Eisenberg, designer of The Banana Splits and Peter Potamus; and Iwao Takamoto, designer of Scooby Doo and Penelope Pittstop. The evening included screenings, plenty of stories and a chance to ask the creators about your favorite shows and characters. Admission was $5 at the door for ASIFA-Hollywood members and full time students, $8 at the door for all others. The event took place at Glendale Community College Auditorium, 1500 North Verdugo Road.

The Annual Cartoon Forum is organized by the European Association for Animated Films. This year the forum focused on TV animation. The Creative Alliance Monthly Salon Series presented TV and Film Producing for the Young Audience, a look at how decisions are made to produce today's entertainment for the young audience. The panel included: Allison Abbate, Producer of The Iron Giant; Marne Jones, Children's Programming for CBS and others. The panel was moderated by Stephen Galloway Executive Editor of The Hollywood Reporter. The event took place at The Gower Theater, Paramount Studios. There was an admission fee. The Animated Castles festival is an international animation festival in the form of a show. All events, including the international competition and the Italian competition of short films, the conferences, round tables, interviews and previews, are presented in one big venue. This year, the festival paid tribute to Marv Newland, Joanna Quinn, Carlos Trillo and Roberto Gavioli.
