The Gathering 1999: Gargoyles World Tour, a convention devoted to Disney's Gargoyles TV series, included an art show, workshops, a dealer's room, a gaming session, a radio show script-reading, a charity auction, and a costumed masquerade. Guests from the Gargoylesshow included creator Greg Weisman, who has also written for DC Comics' Captain Atom and Sony's Men In Black: The Series among others, and is currently writing and editing for Sony's upcoming Starship Troopers CGI series; Frank Paur, producer/director for Gargoyles, Batman: The Animated Series, and supervising director for Spawn; and actor Thom Adcox-Hernandez, who was the voice of Lexington for both Gargoyles and The Goliath Chronicles. An Evening with the Professionals meets every third Thursday of the month. This is a studio field trip series which brings the audience into a different studio each time to talk to industry professionals about a topic that changes monthly. The topic was, "What writers should know about producers." It was hosted by Rhythm & Hues, and the speakers include Ken Roupenian (Producer at Rhythm & Hues), Karey Maltzahn (2D/Post Executive Producer at Rhythm & Hues), Lynne Southerland (Producer at Disney Home Video), and Jeannine Roussel (Producer and Co-Director at Disney Direct to Home Video Feature). ASIFA-Hollywood's ANIFEST '99 was a free 2-day festival of animation. Events included a hands-on animation experience for kids; a stage show by voice artist Lucille Bliss and others; Simpsons comic book artist Phil Ortiz, Warner Bros. Feature Animation director Tom Sito, storyboard artist Bob Miller, plus other professionals also offered individual animation industry insight through engaging stage presentations; demonstrations from animators, storyboard artists and character layout artists; and a silent auction. The festival took place at the Westfield Shoppingtown in Eagle Rock at 2700 Colorado Blvd., located between the 2 and 134 freeways in Los Angeles, CA.
