North American Science Fiction Convention Calls For Entries. Affiliated with the World Science Fiction Convention, NASFiC which takes place in Anaheim, California, August 26 - 29, 1999, is held whenever the WSFC is outside of North America (as it is this year in Australia). The convention includes hundreds of authors, artists, and filmmakers as speakers; an art show; a dealers room; films; costume competition; dances; parties and more. The film competition accepted entries in 16mm and VHS (NTSC only), to be judged by a panel of working TV and motion picture producers, writers, and directors, with prizes and screenings at the convention for the winners. First prize includes US$150 and Graphics Studio Software Suite from NewTek. (Windows/Intel or DEC Alpha platform owner receives LightWave 3D 6.0, Aura 1.0, and the Film Grain and Motion Pack plug-ins for LightWave 3D. List Price: $2995. Exhibitors' Deadline Nears For Animation Expo 2000. Don't miss out on your chance to register your exhibit for Animation Expo 2000. ASIFA-Hollywood's Animation Expo 2000 will be held at the Glendale Civic Auditorium in Glendale, California, USA on March 3 and 4, 2000. This 7th annual animation trade and technology show focuses on the recruitment of animation related talent and personnel, demonstrations of computer technology, animation related products and services, and the sale of animation art and collectibles. BAFTA Calls For Entries. The British Academy of Film and Television Art's (BAFTA) Interactive Entertainment Awards are open to entries from all parts of the world on all interactive platforms. Categories include: Entertainment Website, Innovative Game, Moving Images, Sound, Interactivity, Design, Computer Programming, and more. Entry deadline is August 6, 1999. Awards will be announced October 20, 1999. The Deep End Puppet Theatre Happenings Calls For Entries. DEPTH is a project of Village Arts (Animha Productions). DEPTH is looking for challenging contemporary Puppet or 3D Model animation of any genre. DEPTH accepts films from around the world in any of the following categories: Experimental, Professional, and Student & Non-Professional. All films submitted will be considered equally for screening. Emma Calls For Entries. The International EMMA Awards are prestigious European-based interactive media awards. In 1999, there will again be an online announcement of nominations and winners. In the months following the announcement, another series of winners' celebration events will be organized to coincide with a number of new media related events such as Invision in San Francisco and Milia in Cannes. Categories include: Business, Entertainment, General Interest, Technology, Education, Games, Interactive, and Digital City. Entry deadline is September 24, 1999. Animated Castles Calls For Entries. The Animated Castles festival is an international animation festival in the form of a show. All events -- the international competition and the Italian competition of short films, the TV series and feature films screenings, the conferences, round tables, interviews and previews -- are presented in one big venue. This year, the festival pays tribute to Italian artists Vicenzo Gioanola and Federico Vitali, as well as Jury members Pal Toth (Hungary) and Oscar Grillo (Argentina). The international competition is open to all animated short films produced after January 1, 1996. It does not include pilots, TV series and commercials. Awards include: Grand Prize, Special Jury Prize, Best First Film, plus three special mentions. Films must be submitted in 16 or 35 mm (optical sound only); videos on BVU or Betacam format in PAL standard or 3/4 video (low band only). Entry deadline is September 10, 1999. The Action Young Independent Talent Calls For Entries. The Action Young Independent Talent Award is an annual contest organized by Films Action Inc., in partnership with Ina-Imagina. This 3D contest's goal is to promote new 3D computer artists talents. Prizes include hardware and software packages. The best animation will be transferred to 35 mm. Entry deadline is October 10, 1999. The festival takes place in Paris, France January 28-February 3, 2000. San Francisco Indiefest Calls For Entries. The San Francisco Independent Film Festival (aka SF IndieFest) seeks feature length film and video and short animation films only for its second annual festival to take place December 9-12, 1999. All films in the festival will compete for the Audience Awards for best feature and best animated short and for a prize (new this year) which will be awarded to the IndieFest Staff Favorite.
