Disney Publishes Book On Storyboard Artists. In October 1999, Disney publishing house Hyperion will publish Paper Dreams - The Art And Artists Of Disney Storyboards by John Canemaker. The book provides a behind-the-scenes look at the development of stories, situations, and personalities for many of Disney's animated films, from Plane Crazy through Tarzan. It also includes information about many little known story artists and writers. Artists covered include Bill Peet, Ted Sears, Pinto Colvig, Earl Hurd, Webb Smith, Carl Barks, Harry Reeves, Homer Brightman, T. Hee, Roy Williams, Oskar Fischinger, William Cottrell, Richard Huemer, Joe Grant, Marc Davis, Joe Ranft, Ed Gombert, Burny Mattinson, Paul & Gaetan Brizzi, Brenda Chapman, Chris Sanders, Tyrus Wong, and others. Paper Dreams is a 288 page, large format book, with many B&W and color illustrations. Suggested retail price will be US$60.00.

U.S. Miyazaki Fans Look Forward To New Books. Taking advantage of the buzz around the long-awaited upcoming release on October 29, 1999 of the English version of Princess Mononoke directed by Hayao Miyazaki, Stone Bridge Press and Miramax Press are both releasing tie-in books. Stone Bridge Press is publishing Hayao Miyazaki: Master Of Japanese Animation by Helen McCarthy. The book mixes film-by-film summaries with insider interviews and discussions of the art, plot, production qualities, and themes. It is a 216 page, 7x9" paperback with more than 70 illustrations, including 8 color pages. It is due out in September and has a suggested retail price of US$18.95. Helen McCarthy is the author of several books about anime, including The Anime Movie Guide. Miramax Press is releasing Princess Mononoke: The Art And Making Of Japan's Most Popular Film Of All Time. It is a 224 page book with many color illustrations that came out in July with a suggested retail price of $39.95. Hayao Miyazaki is considered Japan's premiere animation director. His films, in addition to Princess Mononoke, include My Neighbor Totoro, Nausisca, and Kiki's Delivery Service.
