WhirlGirl On Showtime Online. Showtime Network's Internet service Showtime Online [www.showtimeonline.com] has acquired the on-line rights to the futuristic Web-based animated sci-fi strip, WhirlGirl, in a multi-year pact with WhirlGirl parent Visionary Media LLC. WhirlGirl debuted on February 26 with a complete season of 28 new weekly episodes. The show will chronicle the adventures of a sassy, 21st century superheroine, Kia Cross (a.k.a. WhirlGirl), as she fights to save the world from an evil, mediatech empire. WhirlGirl is Showtime's first original series developed exclusively on the Web. The episodes use Macromedia Flash technology. "WhirlGirl is a compelling animated series that will give our site visitors the kind of unique, engaging entertainment that they have come to expect from Showtime," states Jeff Morris, Showtime Network's Senior VP, New Media and Technology Development. "WhirlGirl will take her place among popular Showtime science fiction programs as Stargate SG-1 and The Outer Limits, and extend our science fiction franchise further out onto the Web."
