ANIMATION WORLD MAGAZINE - ISSUE 3.12 - March 1999

April 1999, Music and Sound

Our third anniversary issue focuses on the very interesting world of music and sound, and how it relates to animation. Robin Allan will be writing on Walt Disney's 1946 Make Mine Music. Joseph Bevilacqua will report on the burgeoning number of celebrities entering the animation voice acting ranks. Michael Geisler will share with us the sound designing tips and tricks that he has gleaned through his work on feature and independent films, and television shows. Plus, Disney Television Animation Executive Producer Tony Craig will write on animating to music, and how he found it was almost a lost art. In addition, we will be taking an in-depth look at the Oscars from a number of angles. Famed animation historian Jerry Beck will investigate the rules and selection process, while past winners will be surveyed about the financial advantages a gold statue can bring. Director Mike Smith will also discuss the very nature of judging animated films.

In our Student Corner we will hear from agents, casting directors, voice directors and voice actors on the dos and don'ts that every aspiring voice actor should know. As a special bonus, this will be accompanied by a list of voice talent agents. The Raymond Scott Archive will grace the Hidden Treasures column, as we discover the man behind so many of cartoondom's most recognized and hummed tunes. Rounding out the issue will be numerous reviews, including The Simpsons creator Matt Groening's new FOX show, Futurama, and two new animated features, Doug's First Movie and The King and I. Planned software reviews are Macromedia's Dreamweaver 2 and Fireworks 2.
